IELTS : Academic IELTS Requirements for Canadian Universities

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) has become the most widely accepted test for English Language Proficiency accepted by  Universities and Colleges in Canada.   The IELTS test takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes and has 4 modules:

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking

Scores range from 0-9 with increments of .5.

Who needs to take the IELTS?

  • Are you from a country where English is not the first language?

If the answer to the above question is “yes” than you need to take the IELTs.  Even if English is an official language in your country,  if it is not the first language the IELTS is required.

Academic vs. General IELTS

The Academic IELT focuses on the Academic preparedness and is required for University or College admission.  The General IELTS is for career / or immigration purposes only,  and is not accepted by post-secondary institutions for admittance.
